WorldStage– Former Governor of a north western state of Jigawa, Sule Lamido, has denied receiving any invitation from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu or any chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to defect to the ruling party.
Lamido is known for criticizing the APC-led administration, alleging it has deepened regional divides and failed to address economic hardships and insecurity.
Addressing the rumours of invitation by the presidency today, March 22, 2026, during an interview at his residence while receiving visitors for the Eid al-Fitr celebration, Lamido, a prominent member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), described the reports as mere speculation and clarified that neither the presidency nor the APC had contacted him regarding a potential move.
Lamido said he remains a committed member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and dismissed the idea of joining the APC.
While denying a party switch, he expressed readiness to meet with President Tinubu for discussions focused strictly on national development and unity, prioritizing Nigeria’s progress over partisan politics.
He recently stated he is open to any political arrangement or coalition aimed at removing what he describes as an incompetent government in the 2027 elections.
Responding to reports that he rejected an invitation to join the APC, the former governor said he was unaware of any such move.
“When was I invited? Let me know, please. Did he send you to me? I’m hearing this from you for the first time,” he said.
Lamido also dismissed claims linking him with the African Democratic Congress (ADC), attributing the reports to misinformation spread on social media.
“In this era of social media and content creation, anything is possible. People sit in their rooms and create stories. I have not seen such pictures,” he said.
Despite the denial, Lamido said he would be willing to meet with President Tinubu if the opportunity arises, stressing that such a meeting would be in national interest rather than for partisan reasons.
The PDP chieftain also urged Nigerians to reflect on their electoral decisions, noting that leadership outcomes are a direct reflection of the choices made by voters.
“When we were campaigning, we urged Nigerians to vote right, with integrity and conscience. People voted, and whatever you put in is what you get out,” he added.
Lamido also congratulated Muslim faithful on the occasion of Eid al-Fitr and called for sustained prayers for peace, unity, and stability in Nigeria.
