WorldStage– The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has invited former Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN), to provide clarification on a series of contentious financial decisions made during his time in office.
The inquiry focuses on five high-profile transactions that have generated sustained public scrutiny.
These include the $496 million payment to Global Steel Holdings, issued after the company agreed to withdraw its claims in the long-running Ajaokuta Steel dispute.
Investigators are also probing the management and sale of billions of naira in forfeited assets previously handled by the EFCC under his oversight.
Additionally, Malami is expected to answer questions on the $419 million Paris Club judgment debt awarded to a group of consultants, a deal widely challenged by state governors.
The probe further covers the $200 million settlement reached with Sunrise Power in the Mambilla hydropower project controversy.
Rounding out the list is the issue of alleged duplicated legal fees tied to the repatriation of $321 million in Abacha loot from Switzerland, a matter that has raised questions about due process, payment channels, and advisory contracts approved during his tenure.
