WorldStage– The Accountant General of the Federation, Dr. Shemeldeen Babatunde Ogunjimi, has called for greater professional collaboration and technical support from the United Kingdom District of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) to accelerate the development of the National Treasury Academy, Orozo.
Dr. Ogunjimi made the appeal while receiving a delegation from the UK ICAN District, led by its Chairman, Mr. Akintayo Ojo, FCNA, during a courtesy visit to his office in Abuja.
He underscored the importance of aligning the National Treasury Academy with global accounting and public finance standards, noting that such a partnership would strengthen the institution’s capacity to serve as a centre of excellence in public financial management and accounting.
The Accountant General urged members of the delegation to leverage their international experience and expertise in advancing the Academy’s vision, assuring them of his administration’s commitment to transforming the Academy into a world-class training and capacity-building hub for Nigeria’s public finance professionals.
Dr. Ogunjimi also confirmed the participation of Treasury staff in the upcoming UK ICAN District Annual Conference, slated for March 2026, describing it as an opportunity for knowledge exchange and professional networking.
In his remarks, Mr. Akintayo Ojo commended Dr. Ogunjimi for his consistent support and dedication to the growth of the accounting profession, noting that his leadership had contributed immensely to the District’s numerous achievements.
He further shared updates on preparations for the District’s 35th Annual Conference, inviting the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation to attend and actively participate in the event.
