Top Nigerian AfroGospel music artiste, Mike Abdul, is set to hit the airwaves with another blockbuster, coming after his record shattering song, ‘Ojoro’.
Slated for launch on June 20, Fuji Rush, as the song is titled, is a remarkable departure from other tunes the composer, singer, producer, and record label owner, has done within the Fuji genre. It is characterized by modern string and horn progressions on what is traditionally percussion-led. The result is a gyrating celebration of African gospel sound.
A statement announcing the launch date indicated that the song is targeted at both local and global audiences following months of craftsmanship and hard work by the versatile artiste.
According to the ‘Eyan Jesu’ and ‘Igwe’ crooner, “Taking the church to the streets is what we do. Fuji Rush is another expression of that mission. If you can carry your body in praise, carry it with Fuji Rush”.
In over two decades of his musical voyage, the Lagos-born Michael Olayinka Abdul, better known as Mike Abdul, has become a top trending topic in the Nigerian gospel industry, dishing out such other hits as “Korede,” “Morire,” “I Can Carry My Body” and “30 Billion Halleluyah,” among others.
His versatility has been widely acknowledged as a crucial factor in transforming the Nigerian gospel landscape, characterized by the seamless blending of gospel melodies with reverberating rhythms, and African storylines, ultimately evolving as the AfroGospel genre.
This is a continuation of his contemporary and everyday storytelling style, which he started with songs like ‘Igwe’ from his Midnight Crew days.
The fresh mix is designed to resonate with a diverse audience across Africa and the world at large, which is made even more captivating with Abdul’s delivery in English and other local languages, as well as the inclusion of non-Afrobeat genres like Fuji, Highlife, Apala, etc.
When asked how he does it, he said: “Well, I’m doing a masterclass on that soon (laughs). But to be honest, I am as surprised as you are. I don’t know how it happens. From a spiritual standpoint, I would say that I just step out of the way when God is trying to pass a message through me.
“There have been many times when I have had strong impressions in my Spirit to go in a certain direction. And it didn’t make sense to me from a music business perspective, but whenever I yield to this leading, and I let God have His way, the result is always amazing.”
Will Fuji Rush produce similar astounding outcome? The public will preview from June 20!
