WorldStage Newsonline– The Office of the Accountant General of the Federation (OAGF) has clarified that there were no shortfalls in salaries paid to federal workers in January and February 2025.
According to the OAGF, the salaries received in January and February 2025 were the standard salaries, following the exhaustion of various arrears that had been paid between October and December 2024.
In a statement issued on Friday and signed by its Director of Press, Bawa Mokwa, the OAGF emphasized the need to address concerns regarding the purported salary shortfalls in January and February 2025 to alleviate any anxiety among workers.
The statement explained: “Various salary arrears were paid in the last quarter of 2024, including minimum wage arrears, the 25%/35% salary increase arrears, and wage award arrears. These arrears were disbursed between October and December 2024, leading to an abnormal increase in salaries during that period.”
The OAGF further clarified: “With the exhaustion of these arrears, the payment of normal salaries resumed in January 2025. This has led some workers to mistakenly believe they were shortchanged, whereas, in reality, they are now receiving their regular salaries. A review of the current salary structure confirms this.”
The office noted that unless additional salary arrears are introduced in the future, the salaries paid in January and February 2025 will remain unchanged until the Federal Government conducts a salary review.
The OAGF also revealed that some workers received overpayments in December 2024 due to a system error. It assured that the error has been corrected, and deductions are ongoing from the affected workers’ salaries to recover the excess payments fully.
Regarding the payment of promotion arrears, the OAGF explained that the process is managed by the Standing Committee on Promotion and Salary Arrears within the Budget Office of the Federation (BOF). This committee compiles and verifies all salary and promotion arrears from various Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) before forwarding them in batches to the Integrated Personnel and Payroll Information System (IPPIS) for payment.
The OAGF confirmed that IPPIS has fully processed and paid batches 1 to 6 and is awaiting additional batches from the Budget Office for further payments.
Reaffirming its commitment to efficiently managing the IPPIS, the OAGF urged workers with legitimate salary-related concerns to follow the formal complaint process for prompt resolution.
