WorldStage– The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, has described the passing of Pa Reuben Fasoranti, Leader of Afenifere, a pan-Yoruba socio-political group, as “the end of an era.”
Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, on Tuesday, announced that Pa Fasoranti passed on October 20, 2026. He was aged 100.
In a condolence message on Wednesday, Speaker Abbas said Pa Fasoranti will be remembered for his loyalty and commitment to the progressive ideals of the late sage, Chief Obafemi Awolowo.
While noting that Pa Fasoranti led Afenifere through a challenging period within the group, the Speaker said the late centenarian remained undaunted until his demise.
Speaker Abbas described Pa Fasoranti as one of the few elder statesmen in Nigeria who witnessed the history and trajectory of the country from the colonial/pre-independence era, through the successive military coups and regimes, up to the return of democracy in the current Fourth Republic.
The Speaker particularly hailed Pa Fasoranti for his fatherly blessings and guidance to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, noting that the Afenifere leader progressively supported the President even before assuming office.
While commiserating with the Fasoranti family and Afenifere, the Speaker extended his condolences to the people and the government of Ondo State as well as the entire Yoruba race.
Speaker Abbas prayed for the repose of Pa Fasoranti’s soul.
