WorldStage– Governors elected on the platform of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) are reportedly seeking to modify the party’s 2027 presidential campaign strategy.
The new proposal aims to limit President Bola Tinubu’s appearances on the nationwide campaign trail, shifting the primary burden of public-facing mobilization to state governors and regional party leaders.
The emerging strategy follows President Tinubu’s conspicuous absence from the high-profile APC North-Central mega rally held at Lafia Square in Nasarawa State on Saturday, October 10, 2026.
Although the rally went ahead under the leadership of the host governor, Abdullahi Sule, and was attended by First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu along with several APC governors, the president’s absence fuelled internal discussions regarding his future campaign footprint.
According to party sources, the Progressive Governors’ Forum (PGF) plans to meet with President Tinubu this week to present the revised campaign template.
Under the new arrangement, individual governors will take full control of grassroots mobilization and lead rallies within their sub-national domains.
In contrast, the president would be reserved for selective appearances at key strategic locations, with a focus on the grand finale of the campaign.
Imo State Governor and PGF Chairman, Hope Uzodimma, is expected to coordinate the logistics of the modified rollout.
Insiders suggest that the proposed shift represents a major departure from initial plans, which required the president to appear at events across all six geopolitical zones.
The decision to shield the president from an exhaustive campaign trail is reportedly motivated by several factors, including the physical demands of traveling across Nigeria’s 36 states and the desire to leverage established state-level political machinery directly.
Additionally, party strategists believe that letting local governors spearhead public events will help mitigate regional friction and address specific political undercurrents in parts of the North and South.
Despite the reported discussions surrounding his campaign itinerary, APC leaders have maintained a united front.
At the Saturday rally, North-Central governors reaffirmed their backing for the administration, pledging to deliver their states for the president in the January 2027 presidential election.
The upcoming meeting between the governors and the president at the State House is expected to finalize the campaign modalities.
