WorldStage– The Clerk to the Nigeria’s National Assembly (CNA), Kamoru Ogunlana, has hailed the 2026 House of Representatives Open Week as a critical initiative for bolstering democratic transparency and fostering public engagement in legislative processes.
The three-day event, held under the theme “Three Years of the 10th Assembly: Advancing Transparency, Inclusion and Reform,” served to directly connect lawmakers with citizens and stakeholders.
Ogunlana emphasized that this platform is crucial for bridging the gap between the legislature and the public, creating a more trustworthy and accountable institution.
The event allowed for direct interaction between lawmakers, civil society, and traditional leaders.
A central feature was the presentation of the Third-Year Legislative Scorecard, which highlighted achievements under Speaker Abbas Tajudeen.
According to Ogunlana, key accomplishments showcased included the introduction of 2,747 bills, the passing of 363 bills, and the recovery of ₦61.5 billion in public funds.
Discussions, he added, also focused on critical reforms, including the State Police Executive Bill, gender inclusion initiatives, and enhancing youth participation through town halls. “By institutionalizing the Open Week, the 10th House continues to strengthen its legislative oversight and responsiveness to the public” the CNA stated.
