WorldStage Newsonline– The Lagos State House of Assembly has impeaches Mudashiru Obasa as speaker, and subsequently elected Mojisola Meranda, representative of Apapa I, as the new speaker.
Meranda, who took her oath of office immediately, would serve as the first female speaker of the Lagos legislature.
Mudashiru Obasa, 52-year-old who began his political journey in 2007 when he was first elected to the Assembly has been speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly since 2015.
Obasa was accused of financial misconduct, including the alleged spending of N17 billion to fix a gate leading to the assembly complex.
Mojisola Meranda, representing Apapa Constituency 1, has been sworn in as the new speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly following the impeachment of Mudashiru Obasa .
Meranda, Obasa’s deputy who previously served as the chief whip of the assembly, makes history as the first female speaker of the Lagos legislature.
Mojeed Fatai was named the new deputy speaker, succeeding Meranda.
Meranda took her oath of office immediately after the assembly’s decision, pledging to lead with integrity and prioritise the legislative duties of the house.
