WorldStage– Iyabo Obasanjo, former senator and daughter of ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo, has made a striking political pivot, leaving the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) after 15 years away from active politics to fully align with the All Progressives Congress (APC).
In a no-holds-barred interview on Eagle 102.5 FM, she openly branded her former party’s leadership as “idiots,” criticizing them for engaging prominent members only during elections in what she described as purely transactional politics.
“I think they’re idiots, if you can put it that way,” Obasanjo said, emphasizing that the PDP’s failure to genuinely care for its own leadership team makes it incapable of caring for ordinary citizens.
“If you can’t care for people in your own leadership team, how can you care for the ordinary person on the street?”
Her eventual embrace of the APC, she explained, was tempered by a desire not to appear to oppose her father, but ultimately reflected her own political analysis and conviction.
This decisive shift positions Obasanjo as a rising force in Ogun State politics ahead of the 2027 general elections.
So far, PDP leaders have offered no public response to her scathing remarks.
