The First Lady, Sen. Oluremi Tinubu has distributed N50 million to 250 Zamfara elderly citizens under the second edition of Renewed Hope Initiative Elderly Support Scheme (RHIESS).
Distributing the funds in Gusau on Tuesday the, first lady said the programme was designed to enhance the welfare of the aged persons annually.
Sen. Tinubu, who was represented by Zamfara Governor’s Wife, Hajiya Huriyya Lawal, said, 250 citizens aged 65 years and above were carefully nominated from the less privileged, veterans from the defence as well as police officers’ wives as beneficiaries.
“The grant has been increased from N100,000 to N200,000 this year to provide more support to our elderly citizens during festivity,” she said.
She commended the governor’s wives and the coordinator of the scheme in Zamfara for their concerted efforts to make the programme a reality.
While congratulating the beneficiaries, the first lady urged them to prioritise their health even when they celebrate festivities.
She encouraged them to eat well, stay hydrated, do little exercise like walking and “ensure that you have adequate rest.”
A beneficiary, Mallam Garba Sa’idu, appreciated the first lady for the gesture, describing it as one of the sure ways to improve the living condition of senior citizens across the country.
He promised to make judicious use of the money by establishing a small scale business that would support him to live a better life.
KATSINA
The First Lady Remi Tinubu has disbursed N50 million to 250 women and elderly persons in Katsina State.
Tinubu through the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI), disbursed N200,000 to each of the beneficiaries, to enable them to improved their wellbeing.
Represented by Zulaihat Radda, Wife of Katsina State Governor, Tinubu said the programme was being implemented under the 2nd edition of the social investment scheme tagged: “Renewed Hope Elderly Support Scheme (RHIESS)”.
According to Tinubu, the programme seeks to support the welfare of 250 senior citizens across the 36 states and FCT annually, adding that veterans of the Defence and Police Officers’ Wives Association (DEPOWA) would also benefit from the scheme.
“The Governing Board of the RHI, has decided to increase the grant from N100,000 to N200,000 this year, to provide further support to our elderly citizens during this festive season,” she said, adding that free medical check ups and other items would also be provided to the beneficiaries.
While commending the coordinators of the programme and partners, Tinubu advised the beneficiaries to do exercise, eat well, and spend quality time with loved ones to make themselves happy.
The state deputy governor, Faruq Jobe commended the gesture, adding that it would compliment the state government’s effort towards improving the wellbeing of women and the elderly.
He urged the beneficiaries to ensure effective utilisation of the financial support to improve their social and economic wellbeing.
NASARAWA
No fewer than 250 elderly persons in Nasarawa State have benefited from the Renewed Hope Initiative Elderly Support Scheme (RHIESS) by the First Lady Sen. Oluremi Tinubu.
Tinubu, while speaking at the disbursement of the 2nd edition of the scheme on Tuesday in Lafia, said each of the beneficiaries would receive NN200,000 grant.
Represented by Mrs Aisha Rufa’i-Ibrahim, Nasarawa State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, the first lady said that the gesture was borne out of a steadfast commitment to the well-being of the elderly.
She said the scheme was designed to support the welfare of the elderly citizens aged 65 and above annually in all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja and veterans from the Defence and Police Officers Wives Association.
“The governing board of the Renewed Hope Initiative has decided to increase the grant from N100,000 to N200,000 this year to provide further support this festive season.
“The beneficiaries were carefully selected from the 774 Local Government Areas (LGAs) across the country, and each beneficiary will get N200,000.
“Each state was given N50 million from the N1,900,000,000 that will be disbursed across the country,” Tinubu said.
Also speaking, Hajiya Silifat Sule, wife of Nasarawa State governor, made a symbolic presentation of the money to the beneficiaries.
The governor’s wife also on her part, presented assorted wrappers to each of the beneficiaries to make the celebration of Christmas more worthwhile for them.
In his remarks, Dr Gaza Gwamna, Commissioner for Health, said a medical team was deployed to check the vital signs – blood pressure and blood sugar level of the beneficiaries and offer necessary assistance.

Nigeria’s first lady, Mrs Oluremi Tinubu on Tuesday distributed N50 million to 250 elderly people in Niger state.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the distribution was part of the launch of the 2nd edition of the Renewed Hope Initiative Elderly Support Scheme (RHIESS) across the country.
NAN reports that the theme of the 2nd edition of the RHIESS was “TOTAL WELLNESS: Happy, Healthy and Prosperous Lifestyle.”
The first lady was represented by wife of Niger governor, Hajiya Fatima Bago and was also represented by Mrs Mary Berje, Special Adviser on Women Affirmative, said the scheme was designed to support the welfare of elderly citizens annually.
“The scheme will benefit 250 elderly citizens aged 65 and above in each of the 36 states of the federation.
“Other beneficiaries also are veterans from the Defence and Police Officers’ Wives Association (DEPOWA),” she said.
She disclosed that the Governing Board of the renewed hope initiative had increased the grant from N100,000 to N200,000 for the year to provide further support to elderly citizens during the festive period.
According to her, a total of N1.9 billion would be disbursed across the country.
Mrs Tinubu commended first ladies of the various states, RHIESS state coordinators and partners for their efforts in making the programme a reality.
She also congratulated the senior citizens selected as beneficiaries and urged them to prioritise their health during the festive season.

“Spend quality time with loved ones, and do what you enjoy doing and makes you happy,” she said.
Bako Bawa, who spoke on behalf of the beneficiaries, appreciated the wife of the president and the governor’s wife for the gesture.
He prayed for the success of the present administration and their re-election in 2027.
Bawa cited the ongoing infrastructural development in Niger state and across the country as evidence of the administration’s proactive approach to ensuring the welfare of citizens.
