WorldStage– Euracare Multispecialist Hospital has released an official statement addressing recent allegations of medical negligence related to the death of Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s son.
In the statement, the hospital extended “deepest sympathies” to Adichie and her family, acknowledging the “profound and unimaginable loss” they are experiencing.
The hospital described the death of a child as “beyond words” and offered “heartfelt condolences” to the family.
Euracare clarified that reports suggesting the tragic outcome was due to medical negligence were inaccurate and emphasized that it is a reputable centre for complex medical care, led by an internationally trained clinical team.
According to the statement, the patient was critically ill and had been referred to Euracare for specialized diagnostic procedures after over a week of treatment at two pediatric centers.
“Upon arrival, our medical team immediately provided care in line with established clinical protocols and internationally accepted medical standards, including the administration of sedation where clinically indicated,” the hospital noted.
The statement further highlighted that the care involved collaboration with external medical teams, as requested by the patient’s family, and that all necessary clinical support was provided.
Despite these efforts, the patient passed away less than 24 hours after admission, the statement clarified.
Euracare confirmed that a detailed internal investigation has commenced, consistent with clinical governance standards and best practices.
The hospital stressed its commitment to transparency and responsible engagement with clinical and regulatory processes. It also reaffirmed support for the grieving family while respecting their privacy.
The hospital concluded: “As medical professionals, we carry the weight of this loss deeply. Our priority remains compassion, patient safety, and the responsible handling of this matter. We continue to hold the family in our thoughts and prayers.”
