WorldStage Newsonline– The Executive Vice Chairman of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Prof. Umar Danbatta has further demonstrated his wiliness to transform the agency with the recent redeployment of key staff of the organisation.
Those affected by the reemployment include the Director, Compliance Monitoring and Enforcement Department, Mr. Efosa Idehen; Director, Public Affairs Department, Dr. Henry Nkemadu; Director, Consumer Affairs Bureau, Dr. Ikechukwu Adinde, and Director, Research and Development (R and D) Department, Mr. Ephraim Nwokonneya.
The redeployment was said to have become necessary to enhance performance in line with the mandate to transform the telecommunications sector.
It was gathered that the EVC buoyed by his reappointment for another term is working to leave a legacy at the commission .
“The new redeployment is also Danbatta’s bid to see that there is new thinking and new ideas as well as energy, especially in the compliance and enforcement of regulations, which speaks to national security, especially the issue of improperly-registered Subscriber Identification Module (SIM) cards among others, protection of consumers rights and interests, as well as to ensure effective management of the Commission’s reputation,” a source explained.
The source said that with his reappointment, the EVC would not want to rest on his oars, hence the need to make necessary changes where needed, to strengthen the Commission’s regulatory activities in the interest of the country.
“So, Danbatta identified the need for changes for the actualisation of NCC’s mandate for the next five years and from all indications, the redeployed directors will now be challenged because they know the stakes are high, as they work out strategies to infuse fresh ideas and finesse in the way to run activities of their various departments,” the source said.
Danbatta on June 23 unveiled a new Strategic Management Plan (SMP) 2020-2024 for the agency in Abuja, a move that stakeholders said will further transform the sector.
