WorldStage– A Magistrate’s Court in Wuse, Abuja, has ordered the Nigeria Police Force to investigate Senator Francis Fadahunsi over alleged comments inciting violence against the Accord Party in Osun State.
Presiding Magistrate Farida Ibrahim gave the police two weeks to report back on the investigation, initiated following a complaint by Pelumi Olajengbesi, a campaign spokesman for Governor Ademola Adeleke, regarding a video from a campaign rally in Ilesa.
Based on Section 89(5) of the ACJA 2015, the court directed the AIG Zone 7 to probe the incident, in which Senator Fadahunsi is accused of urging supporters to “kill” members of the rival party ahead of the August 15, 2026, governorship election.
Senator Fadahunsi had previously denied the allegations, stating his comments were metaphorical, referring to defeating political opponents at the polls, and argued his words were mistranslated.
The Osun State Police Command has also summoned the lawmaker to the SCID in Osogbo, amid heightened tension in the state.
Fadahunsi has not been convicted of any offence, and the allegations remain subject to investigation.
The development comes amid heightened political tension ahead of Saturday’s election, with authorities expected to ensure that political disagreements do not translate into threats, intimidation or violence.
