WorldStage Newsonline– In order to ensure an accident free Easter celebration across Nigeria, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Plateau has deployed 900 personnel to patrol the roads during the Easter celebration while the Edo FRSC said it deployed 470 personnel, 1000 special marshals for the Easter operation.
In other locations, the mobile court arm of the FRSC in Anambra said it had convicted 45 traffic offenders while drivers had been urged to adhere to traffic rules, avoid speeding by the Ebonyi Sector Commander of the operation
The Plateau Sector Commander, Mrs Patricia Emeordi confirmed that the Command hadstationed eight patrol vehicles and two ambulances for emergencies on the roads.
She said, “For this Easter celebration, we are deploying over 500 regular marshals and 600 special Marshals on all the roads in Plateau.
“We have also stationed eight patrol vehicles and two ambulances to respond to emergency cases on the highways.”
She advised motorists to obey traffic rules and regulations so as to reduce accidents that could lead to loss of lives and property.
The sector commander also urged drivers to desist from speeding, overloading, wrong overtaking and use of cell phones while driving.
She further advised motorists to “as much as possible avoid night journeys.
“People should plan their journeys to avoid anxiety which could ultimately lead to speeding; they should avoid driving against traffic.”
Emeordi called on road users to cooperate with traffic officers deployed on the roads “for the good of all.”
EBONYI
The Ebonyi Command of Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), warned motorists, especially commercial drivers, to adhere to traffic rules, avoid speeding, overloading and use of worn-out tyres to avoid road crashes.
The Corps Sector Commander in Ebonyi, Mrs Stella Uchegbu, said that the FRSC would prosecute motorists caught violating traffic code during the Easter festivities.
Uchgbu said that many people would travel during the Easter break to celebrate with their loved ones, thereby creating upsurge in both vehicular and human traffic.
Uchegbu said, “Just like in Christmas celebrations, many will travel during the Easter festivities and this will lead to increase in human and vehicular traffic across the country.
“Motorists, especially the commercial motorists, are advised to drive with caution and obey traffic rules as well as adhere to road signs.”
According to her, most commercial drivers in their hurry to make more money, will choose to flout traffic rules, thereby causing road crashes with many resulting in fatalities.
She said that the command, on its part, had made plans to deploy more men on the roads to enhance safety and ease traffic during the period.
She said that the National Headquarters of the Corps had directed the setting up of 200 mobile traffic courts during the Easter to prosecute traffic offenders in the 36 states of the federation.
“Our mandate and commitment is to ensure safety on the highways and we need cooperation of every road user, especially commercial motorists to achieve better result.
“We implore motorists to drive safe and avoid over speeding, over loading, drunk-driving; and we say to them when you drink do not drive and you should drive to stay alive.
“Wear your sit-belts while on steering and cooperate with the road safety officials on duty to serve you better this Easter, “she stressed.
ANAMBRA
No fewer than 45 traffic offenders have so far been convicted by the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) mobile court in Anambra during the ongoing Easter Special Patrol
Mr Sunday Ajayi, Sector Commander of the FRSC in Anambra said, “A total of 45 traffic offenders were arraigned and prosecuted in an Easter Special Patrol Mobile Court sitting at RS5.31, Onitsha Unit Command.
“The traffic offences ranged from Drivers License violation, overloading, non use of seat belt and failure to install Speed Limiting Device.
The sector commander said the most prevalent offences were failure to install speed limiting device, with 24 offenders,
Others were non use of seat belt and overloading, while non possession of driver’s license had 10 offenders.
Ajayi said the Mobile Court operations were part of the measures taken within the Easter patrol to raise the consciousness of motorists on safety issues on the highway.
“All the 45 offenders were convicted with option of fine and none was cautioned or discharged,” he said.
Ajayi said the mobile court would hold in other units of the state and would last throughout the Easter patrol period.
He added that no fewer than 1,000 regular and special marshals have been deployed across the command for effective Easter patrol.
According to him, the officers have been properly briefed on the task of ensuring that the state was free of traffic gridlock and that people celebrated a hitch-free Easter .
The sector commander urged motorists in the state to cooperate with the corps in the interest of safety for all road users.
EDO
The Edo Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) said it had deployed 470 personnel and 1000 Special marshals to various routes in the State to ensure accident free Easter celebration.
The state FRSC Sector Commander, Mr Samuel Odukoya disclosed this on Friday in Benin, while flagging off a special public enlightenment campaign to sensitise motorists on the need to drive with care during the period and beyond.
Odukoya said that the command had also taken measures to ensure free flow of traffic in the various routes across the State especially, on the ever busy Benin/Lagos route.
According to him, the state in recent times had witnessed decrease in road traffic accident stressing that there was need to sustain the achievements as well as improve on the record.
He, therefore, called on motorists to ensure that they adhere strictly to all traffic rules and regulations while driving.
The Commander appealed to the drivers to avoid drinking alcohol before or while driving, and also ensure they were in stable emotional, physical and psychological health.
He also advised motorists to ensure that their wipers were functional especially now that the raining season has set in, and avoid over speeding and over loading as well as ensure that they use seat belt.
