WorldStage— The Nigerian Army has announced full recovery and restoration of its official X (formerly Twitter) handle, @HQNigerianArmy, following a temporary security breach.
In a statement released on Sunday morning by the Director of Army Public Relations, the military high command confirmed that the account is once again under exclusive official management.
The army reassured the public that all security vulnerabilities have been resolved, and its digital communication team has regained absolute control over the platform.
The breach, which occurred earlier in the week, had led to unauthorized posts and a temporary alteration of the account’s profile details.
While the platform was compromised, cyber-security experts and the military’s technical team worked in close collaboration with X’s support infrastructure to isolate the breach, trace the source of the intrusion, and implement advanced security protocols to prevent future occurrences.
According to the official statement, the cyber incident did not compromise any classified military data or internal networks, as the official X account is strictly utilized for public relations, strategic communications, and disseminating verified information to the general public.
The army emphasized that its core operational databases remain entirely secure and unaffected by the social media breach.
The Nigerian Army expressed gratitude to its followers, media partners, and the general public for their patience and vigilance during the brief period of disruption.
It also urged citizens to disregard any misleading updates, direct messages, or publications disseminated through the handle while the compromise lasted.
Moving forward, the military re-established that @HQNigerianArmy remains the authentic, verified digital platform for authoritative updates regarding counter-insurgency operations, internal security updates, and official military affairs.
The high command reiterated its unwavering commitment to maintaining transparent, timely, and secure communication with Nigerians as it continues its constitutional duty to defend the nation’s territorial integrity
