WorldStage– The Boards of Sterling Financial Holdings Company Plc (Holdco) and Sterling Bank Ltd, have secured the approval of the Central Bank of Nigeria to appoint two new directors.
Ms. Olubisi Makoju was appointed as an Independent Non-Executive Director of Sterling Financial Holdings Company Plc. Makoju is an accomplished finance executive with over 25 years of experience spanning the oil and gas, consulting, information technology, and financial services sectors. She possesses extensive expertise in financial management, corporate strategy, operational leadership, and organizational transformation.
She currently serves as the Chief Financial Officer at Smart Grid Development Limited. She is also the founder of Earthwise Capital Limited. Prior to her current role, Ms. Makoju served as Executive Director and Chief Operating Officer of the Nigeria Sovereign Investment Authority (NSIA), where she led critical strategic and corporate initiatives and oversaw multifunctional teams. Ms. Makoju holds a degree in Accounting from Obafemi Awolowo University and an MBA from the University of Warwick. She is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) and an Associate of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants, UK. She has also completed several executive leadership and professional development programmes.
Mr. Olayinka Oni was appointed as a Non-Executive Director of Sterling Bank Ltd. Mr. Olayinka Oni is an Executive Director of Sterling Financial Holdings Company Plc. Prior to this role, he was the Chief Digital Officer of Sterling Bank Ltd, where he led the execution of the Bank’s digital strategy. Before joining the Sterling Group, Mr. Oni served as Chief Technology Officer at Microsoft Nigeria, where he was responsible for technology strategy and strategic stakeholder relationships. Mr. Oni previously served as the CIO/GM, IT & Operations at Wema Bank Plc.He was also an Experienced Manager with the Nigerian practice at Accenture. He was a co-convener of the CIO Nexus, a forum of all CIOs in Nigeria Mr. Yinka Oni is a graduate of Agric Economics from the University of Ilorin. He is an Honorary Senior Member of the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (HCIB). He also obtained a Master’s degree in Management from McGill University, Canada. His domain expertise includes solutions engineering, Program Management, Enterprise Architecture, and IT Governance. Over the course of his career, Mr. Oni has undertaken senior management/executive education programs in business strategy, financial acumen, digital transformation, and general management at leading international educational institutions, including Harvard, Said Business School (Oxford University), INSEAD, MIT.
