WorldStage– The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), has dismissed reports alleging that the Federal Government suspended students’ upkeep allowance payments under the student loan scheme, describing the publications as false and misleading.
In a statement signed by the Director of Strategic Communications, Mrs. Oseyemi Oluwatuyi, the Fund said the reports circulating across social media and online platforms did not originate from NELFUND or any authorised government channel.
According to the statement, some of the reports included a fabricated statement falsely attributed to NELFUND as well as an AI-generated newspaper front page purportedly from The Nigerian Tribune.
The Fund said the publications were designed to create panic, confusion, and distrust among beneficiaries and members of the public.
“NELFUND wishes to state unequivocally that no directive has been issued by the Federal Government or NELFUND regarding the suspension of upkeep allowances,” the statement said.
It further clarified that the newspaper cover currently being circulated online was AI-generated and did not represent a genuine publication from The Nigerian Tribune.
NELFUND reaffirmed its commitment to the transparent and efficient disbursement of student loans and upkeep support in line with its mandate.
The Fund advised beneficiaries, stakeholders, and the general public to disregard the fake publications and rely only on verified information disseminated through its official communication channels and credible media platforms.
It also urged the public to refrain from sharing unverified content capable of spreading misinformation and causing unnecessary anxiety among students and parents nationwide.
“The Fund remains steadfast in its commitment to expanding access to higher education and supporting Nigerian students through sustainable financing initiatives,” the statement added.
