WorldStage– Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has called on the global community to adopt a more balanced perspective of the country’s security challenges during a high-profile diplomatic meeting.
Speaking with the former Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby, at the State House in Abuja on Wednesday, 22 April 2026, she cautioned that “inaccurate framing” of Nigeria’s internal crises hinders the development of effective, localized solutions.
The meeting follows President Bola Tinubu’s recent state visit to the UK, where the First Lady participated in interfaith sessions at Lambeth Palace.
The First Lady stressed that the world must move beyond “one-sided stories” to understand the true context of Nigeria’s security landscape.
She strongly backed interfaith initiatives but advocated for them to be more inclusive.
Specifically, she urged that Nigerian security agencies be invited to participate alongside Christian and Muslim leaders to share on-ground realities and ongoing efforts.
She appreciated Welby’s acknowledgment that Nigerians are best positioned to address their own unique challenges.
The First Lady used the platform to praise the gallantry of the nation’s Armed Forces in their continued fight against insecurity.
She admonished religious bodies, particularly churches globally, to preach right so that people can live right, emphasizing the power of faith-based teachings in promoting peaceful coexistence.
Following the engagements, the First Lady met with the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Bosun Tijani, to discuss the “Girls in Tech” initiative.
She also agreed to support a campaign aimed at boosting rural internet connectivity and promoting female participation in technology.
