WorldStage– A possible importation of intermediate fuel (feedstocks) by Dangote Petroleum Refinery & Petrochemicals (DPRP) may have been misinterpreted in some quarters as importation of finished petroleum products.
The refinery on Wednesday, February 4, 2026 explained the possible sources of the confusion saying, as a state‑of‑the‑art, large‑scale merchant refinery, it refines crude oil and processes intermediate feedstocks into premium petroleum products and petrochemicals that meet the highest international standards.
It listed the intermediate materials which serve as feedstock for additional refining into finished fuels like petrol and diesel, as well as petrochemicals as naphtha, straight‑run gas oil, vacuum gas oil (VGO), reformate, alkylate and isomerate.
While denying reports suggesting that it imported finished petroleum products, describing the claims as incorrect and based on a misunderstanding of global refinery operations, the Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of the refinery, David Bird, explained that processing intermediate or semi‑processed materials is a standard practice within the global refining industry.
