WorldStage– Dangote Refinery has begun free fuel deliveries to independent petroleum marketers across Nigeria, using a newly deployed fleet of compressed natural gas (CNG)-powered trucks.
The move, according to the Refinery, is designed to cut logistics costs and create room for lower pump prices nationwide.
WorldStage gathered that the refinery’s trucks started discharging products at multiple locations on Friday, with members of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) confirming the deliveries came at no cost as part of Dangote’s direct-to-station distribution strategy.
This marks a major step in the refinery’s effort to streamline supply, bypass middlemen, and ensure more efficient fuel distribution.
The development follows Dangote’s recent deployment of over 1,000 CNG-powered trucks, a strategic investment meant to improve nationwide coverage and minimize dependence on diesel trucks whose operating costs have been soaring.
“By absorbing transportation expenses and leveraging cheaper CNG, the refinery aims to stabilize fuel prices despite economic headwinds and forex fluctuations.
“This initiative signals a bold shift in Nigeria’s downstream petroleum market and could significantly impact logistics players, depot owners, and consumers.”
If sustained, oil and gas experts say, it has the potential to bring long-term price stability and efficiency to the country’s fuel supply chain.
