The governments of Ondo and Ekiti States on Thursday met in Akure to seek a peaceful and lasting resolution to the longstanding boundary issues between the two neighbouring states.
The Deputy Governor of Ondo State, Dr Olayide Adelami, who received the Ekiti delegation, assured affected communities that the matter would be addressed amicably through dialogue and mutual understanding.
Adelami explained the historical and cultural ties between the two states, noting that they shared deep roots in tradition, language, and social values.
“The two states were one before Ekiti was created in 1996.
“We still remain sisters in culture, language, academic excellence, and even food,” he said.
“Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa is fully committed to initiatives that will bring peace to the warring communities and sustain our enduring relationship.”
He called on residents of the disputed areas to maintain peace as efforts to reach a resolution progress.
Deputy Governor of Ekiti State, Mrs Monisade Afuye, expressed gratitude to the Ondo State government for hosting the meeting and initiating the peace process.
She congratulated Aiyedatiwa and Adelami on their 2024 electoral victory, describing it as a reflection of their people-focused leadership.
Afuye stressed the importance of early intervention in the boundary conflict to prevent escalation and announced that technical teams from both states would meet to draft concrete proposals for resolution.
Present at the meeting were Surveyor-Generals, Secretaries of the State Boundary Commissions, Permanent Secretaries, and other top officials from both states.
