WorldStage Newsonline– ValueJet and the Plateau Government have agreed to restart direct flights from Lagos to Jos, Plateau, beginning April 2.
ValueJet Managing Director, Omololu Majekodunmi in a statement on Sunday said a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed on behalf of Gov. Caleb Mutfwang, represented by the Transport Commissioner, Jatau Gyang, in Lagos.
He explained the MoU was essential to reduce the risks faced by travellers journeying by road from Plateau to Abuja and other destinations.
The pact aims to legally formalise air services between both parties, particularly given road insecurity in the region.
“The governor has driven from Jos to Abuja over 25 times since taking office. Commissioners also travel frequently, facing insecurity and long hours by road,” Majekodunmi said.
He added that passengers must choose between a 35-minute flight or a dangerous five-hour road trip with potential threats along the way.
Majekodunmi also revealed ValueJet plans to expand services to other key destinations in Nigeria.
Initially, the airline will operate direct Lagos-Jos flights three times weekly — on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays — with potential expansion to daily service.
The commissioner noted that the initiative is vital for Plateau’s development and aligns with the governor’s economic growth strategy for the state.
