The 1994 set of Marketing Department, Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY), Abeokuta, has donated a N150 million building, named “Marketing Legacy House”, to the institution.
Speaking during the handing over ceremony in Abeokuta on Friday, the Ogun Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu, commended the alumni for the kind gesture.
Arigbabu explained that it was important for old students of any institution to always remember and give back to their alma mater.
The commissioner added that of all stakeholders in the education sector, alumni association remained the only group that gave back without expecting anything in return.
“No where in the world that government alone can provide everything, it is important for associations like alumni to support in providing necessary facilities.
“Of all stakeholders in the education sector, the only group that gives back without expecting something in return is the alumni association.
“Alumni associations usually gives back to their institution but it is not common for a set to donate an edifice of this nature.
“Over 30 years ago, you still came back to donate such building, it is highly commendable,” he said.
In his remarks, Dr Adeoye Odedeji, the Rector of the institution, explained that alumni association remained a critical stakeholder in the educational sector.
Odedeji, who appreciated the association, disclosed that the edifice remained the biggest ever donated by an alumni association.
“It is unique because it is donated by a set and not the entire department. I will be competing my five year tenure as rector by December, this is a parting gift. I appreciate it.
In his address, Mr Adeyanju Adelakun, the president of the set, disclosed that the building cost over N150 million.
He said that Marketing “94 set was established to contribute to the development of its Alma Mater, adding that the gesture was to key
into Gov. Dapo Abiodun’s mission to transform the education sector.
“Our support for the department of marketing in particular and the institution at large goes beyond donating this facility.
“It demonstrates our firm commitment to further help in supporting our educational system through contributions toward human capital development.
“This complex consists of 10 lecturers’ offices, HOD’s office with the secretary and cabinets’ offices, modern library, marketing laboratory, conference room and four stores,” he said.
