Pastor Samuel O. Oladele, the President of Christ Apostolic Church (CAC), Nigeria and Overseas, has warned that sweet and charismatic preaching by many men of God these days should not be mistaken for representing God’s mind of the church.
The CAC overall leader who dropped the admonition at a pastors’ conference held at Ebute-Elefun, Lagos said that some of today’s churches were changing the ancient landmarks of Christian doctrine through such sweet practices.
Speaking during a post conference press briefing, the cleric disclosed that CAC’s objective of the conference was to emphasize the truth about the standard doctrine of Christianity.
“There are so many teachings flying about today, but we are talking about doctrine rooted in the Scriptures”. He added that these teachings may be popular, they may be inviting, but if they are not rooted in the Bible, they won’t help the Church,” he cautioned
He added that the word of God was settled and didn’t need revision or padding. “That’s why God warned Israelites not to tamper with the ancient landmarks which demarcated family holdings from one another. But today’s Christianity is shifting from the clear landmark that was set for us in the Scriptures,” he said.
Dwelling on the theme of the conference “Proving our growth through sound doctrine,” Oladele said Christianity was not to be practiced the way any one wanted but according to specification which had been given in the Bible.
Expatiating further on the conference theme, he expressed the necessity for ordained ministers to return to the basics and uphold sound doctrine from the Bible.
“The doctrine that we are talking about is not CAC system of beliefs, but what the Bible teaches, the fundamental truths of the Bible which we cannot joke with. We cannot compromise that. It is time for the church to go back to the doctrines of the Bible,” he said.
Emphasizing that the focus on sound doctrine was not what the church or its leaders teach, but what the Bible teaches, Oladele stated that the church might be wrong but that the Word of God couldn’t be wrong, quoting Psalms 119:89 which says “forever, O LORD, thy word is settled in heaven.”
