WorldStage– Motorists seeking to benefit from the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited’s (NNPC) ₦66-per-litre petrol discount must complete their purchases digitally through the NNPC Fuel App, as the reduction is not automatically applied at the pump.
A statement by Andy Odeh, NNPC’s Chief Corporate Communications Officer emphasized that restricting the discount to the digital platform ensures effective transaction control, prevents abuse, and guarantees that the relief reaches intended beneficiaries.
According to checks at NNPC retail stations, fuel continues to sell at standard rates—such as ₦1,405 per litre in Abuja—for customers paying directly at the pumps.
However, motorists who pay via the mobile application receive the ₦66 markdown, bringing the price down to ₦1,339 per litre.
Originally launched on October 1 to mark Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary, the promotion has been extended through October 31, 2026.
NNPC noted that the extension aligns with federal economic interventions announced on October 8 by Taiwo Oyedele, the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, to cushion citizens against rising fuel costs.
NNPC has firmly rejected claims that the discount marks a return of the fuel subsidy.
The company clarified that the arrangement represents a temporary customer-relief initiative rather than a change to the nation’s deregulated, market-driven pricing policy.
According to NNPC, motorists must download the application from official app stores, complete user registration, and pay for their Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) directly through the platform at participating retail outlets to access the price break.
