WorldStageNewsonline– The Kaduna State Police Command on Monday confirmed gunmen attack on Katura village in Kajuru Local Governemt Area of the state where four persons were killed.
The Command’s spokesman, DSP Yakubu Sabo told one of our correspondents on phone that the command received a distressed calls at about 02:45am and immediately mobilize to the affected community on the order of the Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Abdurahman.
“We (command) received a distressed call at about 02:45am early hours of today(Monday) that there was an attack by unknown gunmen who invaded the Katura village and starting shooting sporadically and in the process four persons were killed and three injured.”
He said the police commissioner also directed the Federal SAR and anti-riot police of the command to search the affected community with a view to fish out the culprits.
He added that the operations were still on going as of the time of filing this report.
Though the police said four were killed and three injured in the Sunday attack, a source seven persons actually sustained injuries from gunshots.
The seven, according to source, have since been taken to the hospital and were currently receiving medical attention.
The gunmen reportedly attacked the village at about 8.00pm on Sunday where the opened fire on residents said to be celebrating the new year.
The attack, it was gathered, came hours after the state governor, Mallam Nasir el-Rufai had a town hall meeting with the people of Kasuwan Magani on Sunday, where the governor appealed to the people of the area to continue to live in the peace with each other.
Kasuwan Magani in the same council had in October was enmbroiled in a commmunal clash which claimed several live which led to state placing a 24 -hour curfew.
The President of the Adara Development Association, Mr. Awema Dio Maisamari also confirmed the incident, describing it as sad and unfortunate.
Maisamari said the incident took place at about 8.00pm when the villagers where dancing in anticipation of the new year.
He said prior to the attack there was record audio allegedly informing the villagers of an impending attack on some selected communities in the area.
He said, “The attack took place around 8:00pm when the youths were celebrating the new year. They were dancing in anticipation of the new year, when suddenly the gunmen invaded the community and opened fire at the them.
“Four persons were killed on the spot while seven others were injured.”
Maisamari added, “There was an audio message that was sent by a fulani man, telling us that they are coming and Kutura village was one of the villages mentioned for attack in the audio and that we should get ready.
“So this has confirmed to us that all these things we are hearing and we called them rumours are coming to pass!
“When the audio was circulating, we raised the issue at a meeting with government officials at the State House (Hassan Katsina House), Kaduna. They told us that they had already taken care of the situation.
“We were at the meeting with the SSG (Secretary to the State Government) and we brought up the issue, he told us that they were aware of it and they had already taken care of the situation.
“That is to say that we can no longer rely on government to protect us.
“They will hear. They will promise and at the end of the day our fears would be confirmed. We don’t feel protected at all.”
