WorldStage– The Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola has said that the Federal Government’s port modernisation programme is nationwide, as procurement is underway to modernise ports in Warri, Port Harcourt, Onne and Calabar, alongside upgrades for Apapa and Tin Can Island.
Oyetola who spoke at the ministry’s combined citizens’ and stakeholders’ engagement, sectoral performance review, and ministerial retreat in Lagos dismissed claims that it is limited to Lagos.
He stressed that inclusive infrastructure development remains central to the ministry’s mandate.
“Let me address concerns that our focus is limited to Lagos ports. This is not the case,” he said.
“We are committed to balanced and inclusive development of port infrastructure across the country,” Oyetola said.
He described the modernisation as beyond infrastructure, calling it a transformative intervention by President Bola Tinubu’s administration to enhance efficiency and cargo handling.
“It will reduce vessel turnaround time and improve capacity,” he said.
Oyetola also revealed approvals for new deep seaports in Bayelsa, Cross River, Akwa Ibom and Ondo states.
“These projects will expand maritime capacity, decongest existing ports, and open new economic corridors,” he said.He added that the initiative aligned with the Federal Government’s economic diversification agenda and will boost trade, reduce business costs and attract investment.
