WorldStage– Taiwo Oyedele a renowned tax expert with extensive experience in fiscal policy has assumed office as Nigeria’s Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy following a handover from Wale Edun who resigned two days ago on health ground, according to the Presidency.
A former professor/lecturer at various institutions assumes the role during a critical juncture, aiming to transition stabilized economic conditions into tangible benefits
Speaking during the handover session, Oyedele pledged to build on existing reforms and prioritize fostering economic growth through a predictable, investor-friendly environment.
He also undertook to enhance fiscal discipline as well as optimize tax policies for sustainable development.
Elevated from Minister of State for Finance (appointed March 2026) to the substantive role on April 21, 2026, the new Minister has also previously served as Chairman of the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy & Tax Reforms from August 2023.
His core focus areas include productivity and growth through the creation of policy coherence, consistency, and clarity to attract investment.He’s also targeting prudent management of public resources, harmonizing tax administration and broadening the tax base, and aligning fiscal efforts across all government tiers.
