WorldStage— Nigeria’s Senate President Godswill Akpabio has urged the top management of the National Assembly and the National Assembly Service Commission (NASC) to institutionalize efficiency, strict financial accountability, and adherence to due process.
Akpabio issued the charge during a high-level management retreat in Abuja.
He emphasized that the legislative bureaucracy must evolve into a forward-looking, highly competent workforce to adequately support the constitutional mandates of the 10th National Assembly.
Delivering his address to senior administrative officials, including the Clerk to the National Assembly (CNA), Akpabio noted that the parliament’s ultimate success rests heavily on the administrative machinery behind the scenes.
“We must recognize that a more effective National Assembly requires a professional, well-coordinated, and forward-looking administrative workforce,” Akpabio stated.
He underlined that the quality of administrative support must directly mirror the weight of expectations from the Nigerian electorate.
The Senate President maintained that the legislature is a critical cornerstone of Nigeria’s democracy, meaning its internal systems must stay completely above board.
He added that the ongoing capacity-building initiatives highlight the current leadership’s dedication to instilling robust administrative discipline, driving innovation, and stamping out waste.
According to Akpabio, operations must prioritize result-oriented service delivery and structural harmony to bridge public performance gaps.
The call aligns with Akpabio’s earlier stances on boosting internal fiscal transparency and budget oversight within the legislature.
He noted that lawmakers must get their own house in order to foster lasting institutional trust.
By enforcing strict adherence to due process and ensuring merit-driven career progression, the National Assembly management will be better positioned to execute its duties efficiently.
Akpabio therefore charged the leadership of the NASC and the CNA’s team to operate collaboratively, working seamlessly as one cohesive unit to safeguard the institutional integrity of the parliament.
Officials at the retreat pledged to systematically absorb these guidelines, promising renewed administrative reforms designed to make the National Assembly bureaucracy far more transparent, responsive, and accountable to all citizens.
