WorldStage Newsonline– Maximizing privacy and protection of data belonging to Nigerian from malicious use and unauthorized access, the Nigeria Data Protection Commission(NDPC), has launch the Nigeria Data Protection Strategic Roadmap and Action Plan (NDP -SRAP) 2023-2027.
The National Commissioner/Chief Executive Chairman of (NDPC), Dr. Vincent Olatunji at the launch on Tuesday, said the (NDP -SRAP) 2023-2027, is expected to generate 500,000 jobs, generate revenue of more than N125 billion and expand the sector within the lifespan of the roadmap.
The (NDP -SRAP) comprises interlinked initiative/activities, which includes job/wealth creation, human capital development, revenue generation, foundational initiatives for the digital economy, and enhancing Nigeria global reputation.
Unlocking the value of data across the society is one way the NDP-SRAP aims to support world-leading data economy through fostering trust among people, organisations, and the global community.
Dr. Olatunji, explained that NDPC is working to protect Nigerians from malicious use of their identity and unauthorised access to their data.
He said: “In the area of security, this is one area we’re also looking at in terms of data privacy, the malicious use of identity and unauthorised access to people’s data are being used for various purposes.
“In terms of jobs creation, generation of data, confidence in our businesses, the way people perceive us within and outside the country – these are the things we’re working on. The generation of 500, 000 jobs and the development of human capital are things that would be there for everybody to participate in.
“We have about 69 major initiatives and activities across the five pillars in the areas of governance, awareness and human capital development, in the area of the ecosystem and technology. We’re looking at having home-grown solutions in terms of applications that can drive a lot of things; especially, the law itself, enforcement, investigations, a lot of solutions that can come out of that. Privacy and protection should cut across all sectors.”
He however, lamented that funding as a major challenge by Data Protection Organisation, says the NDP -SRAP will find local means to sort out the funding challenges.
