WorldStage– The National Insurance Commission (NAICOM) says the brokerage community is a key partner in promoting market discipline, professionalism, and restoring Nigerians’ confidence in the insurance sector.
Mr Olusegun Omosehin, Commissioner for Insurance (CFI), made the remark when the newly elected President of the Nigerian Council of Registered Insurance Brokers (NCRIB) visited him in Abuja on Thursday.
Omosehin urged brokers to maintain their identity as professional advisers rather than intermediaries seen only in transactional terms.
He emphasised the need to reinforce trust and professionalism in the sector.
He also called for enhanced public awareness initiatives, particularly regarding compulsory insurance classes and the role of brokers in safeguarding clients’ interests.
The 17th President of NCRIB, Mrs Ekeoma Ezeibe, said her administration would strengthen compliance culture among brokers, improve documentation, and enhance communication processes across the market.
Ezeibe added that the council would promote continuous training, mentorship, and capacity building, with particular focus on women and young professionals in the industry.
She explained that many historical compliance issues were not due to negligence but often administrative oversights, and assured NAICOM that the new leadership was committed to addressing those gaps.
The NCRIB president pledged deeper engagement with the Commission to foster clarity, shared understanding, and stronger collaboration across Nigeria’s insurance market.
