WorldStage– The Federal High Court in Abuja today, Friday, dismissed a suit brought by the civil society group, Initiative for Leadership and Economic Watch, against Senate President Godswill Akpabio, the Senate, and Clerk Chinedu Akubueze.
The lawsuit challenged the legality of the six-month suspension imposed on Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan (PDP, Kogi Central) in March 2025, following allegations of misconduct during a Senate session.
Ruling on the suit, the presiding judge, Justice James Omotosho, struck out the case on procedural grounds, citing improper service and lack of jurisdiction, without examining the substantive issues.
This ruling does not affect the suspension itself, which had already been overturned by earlier court decisions.
The development underscores the persistent tensions within the 10th Senate over disciplinary measures and the limits of free expression.
