The Ogun Government says plans have been concluded to begin the construction of roads leading to the campuses of some higher institutions in the state.
Mr Femi Ogunbanwo, the state Commissioner for Special Duties, disclosed this on Saturday during a joint Senate meeting of the state chapter of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) and the National Association of Ogun State Students (NAOSS).
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the programme with the theme, ” X-Raying the State of Ogun State”, was held on Saturday at the Tai Solarin College of Education (TASCE), Omu-Ijebu.
Ogunbanwo, who was a special guest at the event, noted that contractors had already moved to site to commence work on the affected campus roads.
He said that the roads included Ala-Omu Road where TASCE is located and also Ilese-Ijebu and Imushin Roads where the state College of Health Technology is situated, among others.
The commissioner explained that the state government was aware of the importance of fixing those roads to the benefit of the students.
He noted that education remained the bedrock of any successful society or nation, hence, the need to accord it utmost priority.
He commended the students for passing vote of confidence in Gov. Dapo Abiodun’s administration, saying the gesture would spur him to do more than expected.
“We know how we met the state of education when we came in, we know the state of education now, the students showing appreciation to the governor is commendable,” he said.
Earlier, Mr Damilola Simeon, Ogun NANS chairman, commended the state governor for taking education as one of its priority.
The NANS chairman, however, appealed to the state government to increase subvention to schools, fix dilapidated roads leading to various campuses and also provide mobility to ease the burden on students.
On security, he called on the state government to continue to ensure the safety of lives and property while warning students to stay away from vices like cultism and internet fraud that could jeopardise their future.
