WorldStage– Six defendant military officers who were part of those being tried for coup to oust Nigeria’s President Bola Tinubu last October have pleaded not guilty to a 13-count charge involving treason and terrorism at the Federal High Court in Abuja
The charges stem from an alleged plot in 2025 to levy war against the state and overthrow President Bola Tinubu.
All six suspects pleaded not guilty to all charges after which Justice Joyce Abdulmalik ordered them to be remanded in the custody of the State Security Service (DSS).
The defendants are Mohammed Ibrahim Gana (Retired Major General); Erasmus Ochegobia Victor (Retired Navy Captain); Ahmed Ibrahim (serving Police Inspector); Zekeri Umoru (electrician at the Presidential Villa); Bukar Kashim Goni (civilian); and Abdulkadir Sani (Islamic cleric based in Zaria).
Former Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Timipre Sylva, is also named in the charge sheet but remains at large.
The 13 counts include conspiracy to commit treason, terrorism, failure to disclose security intelligence, and money laundering linked to terrorism financing.
The court has adjourned the case until April 27, 2026, to hear bail applications
The judge also ordered an accelerated hearing for the trial.
