* Describes his deployment as a profound responsibility
*Pledges to focus on consolidating existing security gains, to deploy modern, people-centred policing strategies to curb crime across the state
WorldStage– CP Aina Adesola has officially taken over as the 23rd Commissioner of Police in Delta State, assuring residents of a renewed security drive anchored on intelligence-led operations, community partnership, and zero tolerance for misconduct within the Force.
Addressing journalists in Asaba on Monday, the Commissioner described his deployment as a profound responsibility, thanking the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, for the trust placed in him.
He said his leadership would focus on consolidating existing security gains while deploying modern, people-centred policing strategies to curb crime across the state.
CP Adesola noted that Delta State occupies a unique place in his career, having begun his policing journey in the state shortly after graduating from the Nigeria Police Academy.
He also previously served as Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations in Delta, a position he said exposed him to the state’s security realities and operational demands.
He commended his predecessor, Assistant Inspector-General of Police Olufemi Abaniwonda, who has been posted to the Force Headquarters as AIG in charge of Operations, describing his tenure as impactful and instrumental in strengthening policing structures within the Command.
The Commissioner stated that his mandate is clear: to protect lives and property, suppress criminal activities, and ensure an atmosphere conducive to economic growth and social stability.
He stressed that crimes such as kidnapping, armed robbery, cultism, and communal clashes would be tackled decisively but strictly within the bounds of the law and respect for human rights.
According to him, the Delta State Police Command will deepen collaboration with sister security agencies, the state government, traditional institutions, community leaders, and civil society groups to enhance proactive crime prevention and intelligence gathering.
CP Adesola urged residents to see security as a shared responsibility, encouraging them to volunteer useful information to the Police through appropriate channels.
He also acknowledged the media as a strategic partner, calling for objective and responsible reporting in support of security efforts.
Warning officers and men of the Command against unprofessional conduct, the Commissioner said acts of extortion, incivility, and abuse of power would attract strict disciplinary action.
He also promised fair and purposeful leadership for personnel.
