WorldStage Newsonline– Sahara Group on Friday at Radisson Blu Hotel, Lagos held the second edition of its initiative Asharami Square 2.0 aimed at promoting sustainability through effective media advocacy.
The event with the theme: Harnessing Gas for Africa’s Sustainable Future brought together leading voices from across the energy, media, and policy landscapes who all share the same view that natural gas is not just a transitional fuel but a transformational tool for Africa’s development.
The experts that made presentations at the event include Ijeoma Isichei, Head of Gas Business Development, Sahara Group; Olurotimi Famoroti, CEO of First Independent Power Limited(FIPL); Mariah Lucciano-Gabriel, Head of Integrated Gas Ventures, Asharami Energy; Mr. Abel Nsa, Senior Technical Adviser to the Nigerian Minster of State Petroleum Resources (Gas); Mobolaji Sunmoni, Senior Infrastructure Finance Professional; and Dr. Adeola Yusuf, Team Lead of Platforms Africa.
The issues addressed under 2060 Vision of Sahara- sustainable power generation and reduction of carbon dioxide emission include; The west know how to effectively use the media to drive out ideas and create awareness of troubling issues; Natural gas offers a strategic gap bridge between the demand for energy and the need for sustainability and development.
According to Abel Nsa, natural gas is not merely a transitional fuel, it is a transformational fuel.
While Mariah Lucciano-Gabriel described gas as a bridge fuel/transition fuel, she said regional integration implies the collaboration between countries and regions in the management of variations in gas availability and accessibility.
Mobolaji Sunmoni in his contribution mentioned vitality of finance in execution of gas sustainability projects; projects that are nor bankable can’t be funded; finance and policy incentives can be utilised in making the gas sector more attractive; and government funding can ‘derisk gas projects.
