The Seplat Energy Plc., leading Nigerian independent energy company, has reiterated commitment to developing capacity of its media stakeholders, fostering increased professionalism and driving career sustainability.
Mrs Chioma Afe, Director, External Affairs and Social Performance, Seplat Energy Plc made this known at the 2025 Media Training Programme organised by the company in Abuja.
The company also advocated for entrepreneurship for media professionals as a plan B to enable practitioners tackle domestic and other financial challenges.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the training was in line with the company’s commitment to media excellence, entrepreneurship and economic well-being.
Journalists in attendance, were exposed to various business opportunities they can venture into so as to create more value and broaden their horizons while working to be entrepreneurs.
Afe, represented by Mr Stanley Opara, Manager, Corporate communications, Seplat Energy Plc. also advised participants on the need for early preparedness for retirement.
She commended the media professionals for their quest for knowledge and assured them of Seplat Energy’s commitment in consolidating on the company’s existing partnership with the media, going forward.
Delivering a session on “Can Managers or Professionals (such as Journalists) make good Entrepreneurs?”, Professor of political economy and management expert, Prof. Pat Utomi, identified entrepreneurship as quantum leap in value creation.
Utomi examined the difference between the entrepreneurial and the managerial mindset trends, talent and opportunities spectrum.
Dr Solomon Avbioroko, former Director of the Lagos Business School, who spoke on “Ego States Profile and Impact on Transactional Analysis” described Ego states as the foundational elements of Transactional Analysis, influencing communications.
In his presentation on “Second Phase of Life: Overcoming the Phobia” Avbioroko observed that retirement is not an end, but a beginning, an opportunity to experiment, explore and to engage in valued pursuits as well as to reinvent legacy.
Mr Abiola Adedeji, a seasoned trainer, highlighted the importance, benefits and components of digital marketing, as well as Digital customer journey mapping as a communication strategy tool.
Adedeji spoke on the topic, “Understanding Digital Marketing: With a focus on Customer Journey Mapping”
On her part, Mrs Uloma Okoro, a Lawyer and Entrepreneur underscored the need to learn, unlearn and re-learn, as mistakes are all part of the learning process.
Okoro, while delivering a session on “Developing A Business Model and Writing a Winning Business Plan”, exposed participants on the need to venture into business with a moderate capital.
In a session on “Media Technology: Trends, Importance and Adaptability ”, Nnamdi Uwaemelulam, a video editor and multimedia producer, emphasised on the need for media professionals to embrace evolving technologies.
He dwelt on innovative content formats, cross-platform media habits and the critical role of personalisation and algorithms.
The insightful training which evolved media landscape and entrepreneurship opportunities open to media practitioners, was an impactful blend of leadership and skill-building workshops.
