WorldStage– Police in the Nigeria’s capital, Abuja, have arrested four men for allegedly using the name of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, to defraud a retired military officer, Major General A.K. Ibrahim, and others of N150 million.
The arrest was disclosed in a statement released by Wike’s media aide, Lere Olayinka.
The main suspect, Yashim Kajang, residing at Kurudu, Abuja, was, according to the statement, arrested on Tuesday, March 24, 2026 and named three others as his accomplices who provided data and land information for the scam
The three accomplices are Stephen Mhambe of Urban and Regional Planning Department, FCDA; Danladi Jatau also of Urban and Regional Planning Department, FCDA; and Terngu Ipaven.
The suspects reportedly convinced victims they worked with Minister Wike and the Director of Lands and collected over N150 million for land documents related to Plot 1985 at Guzape II, Abuja, which were never delivered.
The arrests coincide with a period of high tension for Minister Wike who was recently involved in a heated standoff with Naval Lt. A.M. Yarima at a disputed land site in Gaduwa District, where soldiers allegedly blocked his access and threatened to open fire.
Following the confrontation, Wike clarified on March 26, 2026, that he has no problem with the military and maintains respect for the institution despite the altercation.Another official from the Abuja Geographic Information System (AGIS), Mairiga Hassan Shaharu, was also recently arrested for allegedly leaking documents regarding land allocations.
