WorldStage– The Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Mr. Ola Olukoyede, has urged youths across the country to take ownership of the fight against corruption, describing them as critical stakeholders in safeguarding the nation’s future.
He gave the charge today, Tuesday, when students of Bright Brains Royal Academy, Abuja, undertook an educational tour of the Commission’s corporate headquarters in Jabi, Abuja.
Represented by the Head of EFCC Radio, Deputy Commander of the EFCC, DCE Nwanyinma Okeanu, the EFCC’s boss stressed that the anti-corruption war was a collective responsibility that must be embraced by all Nigerians, especially young people.
“The fight against corruption is not just for staff of the EFCC but for all Nigerians, particularly you—the youths—who are the leaders of tomorrow,” he said. “As future leaders, you must equip yourselves with the values, discipline, and knowledge needed to achieve your dreams.”
He encouraged the students to pay close attention to the lectures presented to them, adding that the lessons would serve as a guide in making sound choices and shaping their future.
Also speaking, the Head Enlightenment and Reorientation Unit, Assistant Commander of the EFCC, ACE II Aisha Mohammed, cautioned the students against sharing or storing nude images on their devices, warning that such actions expose them to sextortion, blackmail, and other cyber risks.
“Reject all requests for your nude pictures, whether from friends, classmates, or even relatives,” she said. “Stop snapping and saving such images on your phones. Hackers can phish into your device and use them to extort you.”
Mohammed further advised the students to serve as anti-corruption ambassadors by spreading the Commission’s message of integrity among their peers, families, and communities. She also delivered a brief lecture on cybercrime, highlighting the two categories—dependers and enablers—and urged the students to steer clear of both.
In his presentation on cybersecurity, Superintendent of the EFCC, SE Oloyede Johnson, dispelled common myths about Artificial Intelligence, emphasizing that AI strengthens rather than replaces human roles. He described cybersecurity as the art of protecting networks, devices, and data from unauthorized access, maintaining confidentiality, integrity, and availability.
He outlined various branches of cybersecurity, including operational security, information security, network security, application security, and disaster recovery.
Johnson also explained common cyber threats such as malware, phishing, spyware, DoS/DDoS attacks, cyberterrorism, cyberwarfare, and artificial intelligence–driven cyberattacks.
He further highlighted global job prospects in cybersecurity, noting a growing demand for professionals in fields such as cloud security, penetration testing, defensive cybersecurity, and governance, risk, and compliance (GRC).
In her vote of thanks, Hajja Umar Sanda, who represented the school’s proprietor, expressed appreciation to the EFCC for the warm reception and the valuable knowledge shared with the students.
