*As detectives uncover a suspicious transfer of ₦50m from his account, reportedly shared by some members of his immediate family
WorldStage– The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed that former Social Democratic Party (SDP) governorship candidate in Ondo State, Bamidele Akingboye, was murdered.
Speaking with Channels Television on Saturday, the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Olorundare Jimoh, confirmed that the police have received the autopsy results, preparing to move forward with further investigation and prosecution.
According to CP Jimoh, the autopsy conducted on September 11, alongside other findings, prompted the arrest and re-detention of seven of the fourteen family members previously invited for questioning.
The police, he said, are currently waiting for guidance from the Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP) on the next course of action.
Earlier, detectives from the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti, Yaba, had arrested and interrogated nine close family members and aides linked to the death.
One of the initial concerns investigated by detectives involved a suspicious transfer of ₦50 million from Akingboye’s account, reportedly shared by some members of his immediate family, among other issues.
CP Jimoh said, “With the toxicology findings concluded, we await advice from the DPP so prosecution can begin against anyone found culpable of murder.”
Akingboye reportedly died under unclear circumstances on September 3, with family members and aides claiming his body was found in the backyard of his residence.
His eldest son, Samuel Akingboye, who lives in Ondo State, alerted the authorities and called for a full investigation to uncover the circumstances surrounding his father’s death.
CP Olorundare Jimoh reiterated his commitment to uncovering the truth and bringing all those responsible to justice.
