Veteran Nigerian actor Davis Offor, famous for his role as Clarus in the iconic sitcom The New Masquerade, has passed away today, Tuesday, April 7, 2026.
His passing was confirmed by his former colleague, Tony Akposheri (who played “Zaki”), in a heartfelt announcement on social media.
Reported to be 83 years old at the time of his death, Offor was a staple of early Nigerian television, known for playing the comedic houseboy Clarus alongside Chika Okpala (Chief Zebrudaya) and the late James Iroha (Gringory).
In his later years, he became a reverend and continued to preach despite battling blindness for over 25 years.
His death follows that of other New Masquerade stars, such as Elizabeth Evoeme (“Ovularia”), who passed away in February 2026.
His contemporary in the sitcom series, Akposheri (Zaki) wrote: “Davis Ofor, fondly known as our own Clarus from New Masquerade, is gone.
“We crossed into the New Year together, laughing, talking, sharing memories, and speaking hopefully about the days ahead. We spoke about life, about plans, about how far we had come.
“None of us knew that time was already counting differently for you. May his soul rest in peace.”
