WorldStage– Yobe State Governor,Mai Mala Buni has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his unwavering dedication to security, sustainable peace, and economic development in the Nigeria’s Lake Chad Basin region.
Governor Buni, who serves as the Chairman of the Lake Chad Basin Governors’ Forum, gave the commendation during his official visit to the Lake Chad Basin Commission (LCBC) headquarters in N’Djamena, Chad.
Buni emphasized that President Tinubu’s strong backing of regional stabilization mechanisms, the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF), and cross-border cooperation remains vital for lasting regional prosperity.
The governor congratulated the newly appointed Executive Secretary of the LCBC, Ambassador Ibrahim Babani, pledging a highly cooperative working relationship between the Governors’ Forum and the Commission.
He lauded the federal government’s support for the Regional Strategy for Stabilization, Recovery, and Resilience (RS-SRR), which serves as a unified blueprint to rebuild Boko Haram-affected territories.
In his address at the headquarters, Governor Buni noted that the region faces severe cross-border vulnerabilities that do not respect administrative boundaries, demanding swift and coordinated action.
Other vulnerabilities, according to the governor, are violent extremism and persistent terrorist threats, massive population displacement and humanitarian crises, severe climate pressures and ecological shrinking of the Lake Chad Basin, and high socio-economic disparities and limited structural infrastructure.
Following his LCBC visit, Governor Buni visited the Headquarters of the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) in N’Djamena to review their ongoing counter-terrorism operations.
He pledged to brief President Tinubu regarding the tactical successes and critical operational hurdles facing the task force, which include analyzing the strategic impact of Niger Republic’s withdrawal from the task force alongside addressing deficits in resources, high-tech equipment, and manpower.
He vowed to advocate for increased resource allocations and interventions from the Nigerian Federal Government and other member states to secure the basin permanently.
