WorldStage– Unconfirmed reports have emerged alleging that President Bola Tinubu has removed the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, from office.
Citing anonymous sources, the reports published a breaking story that Egbetokun was directed at the Presidential Villa on February 23 to prepare handover notes.
The reports further alleged that Tunji Disu, currently serving as Assistant Inspector-General in charge of the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) Annex in Alagbon, Lagos, would succeed him.
No official documents or named sources were provided.
The claim was amplified on social media by some activists and politicians who reposted the allegation without presenting independent verification yet.
Since mid-morning, the report has circulated widely across X (formerly Twitter) and online forums, with most posts tracing back to the initial of an online publication.
However, there has been no official confirmation from the Presidency, the Nigeria Police Force, or the Police Service Commission regarding any leadership change.
It was gathered that the police authorities have remained silent on the matter.
Recent official communications earlier in February continued to reference Egbetokun as the serving Inspector-General, including announcements on promotions and operational directives.
Analysts note that mainstream media organisations have not confirmed the development.
Until an official statement is issued by the State House or the Police High Command, the reported development remains unverified.
