WorldStage– The MacArthur Foundation has awarded a $100 million grant to Sentinel, a project co-led by the Broad Institute and Professor Christian Happi of the Institute of Genomics and Global Health at Redeemer’s University, Nigeria.
The grant was the result of the latest round of the MacArthur Foundation’s “100&Change” competition, which seeks a single $100 million solution to help solve a critical social problem.
The Sentinel project, “an outbreak detection and containment system that would operate globally to prevent future pandemics,” was selected from 869 initial applications.
According to the Foundation, Redeemer’s University’s involvement, through the leadership of Professor Happi, will be integral to the project’s success in changing how communities approach early detection of infectious diseases worldwide.
The project is jointly led by Pardis Sabeti of the Broad Institute in the United States.
