WorldStage– A former Nigerian military officer, General Somto, has shared his reaction on the death of Brigadier General M. Uba, who was reportedly killed by ISWAP insurgents after being captured during an ambush.
In a video posted on X, the ex-soldier described the loss as a national tragedy, emphasizing the weight of a general’s role in the Nigerian Army.
“A whole general of the Nigerian army, a type of man that formations salute… that terrorists should dare not come close to, that’s who we lost today,” he said.
He warned Nigerians of the implications of the attack, stressing that if a high-ranking officer could be captured and killed, the threat from insurgent groups like ISWAP and Boko Haram is even more serious.
He recounted Brigadier General Uba’s capture, interrogation, and ultimate death as a “very, very sad” development that should galvanize the military into action.
“An entire general… the entire Nigeria should be scared,” he said, calling on the Nigerian military to avenge the general’s death with a “thousand-fold” response and to crush insurgent elements decisively.
The former soldier also highlighted that the attack signals a shift in ISWAP and Boko Haram’s focus, moving from targeting civilians to high-ranking military personnel, underlining the growing sophistication and boldness of the insurgents.
He concluded by urging urgent military action, noting that the incident should serve as both motivation and warning to the armed forces and the nation.
